The SIM2 Max is the middle, most widely fitted head in TaylorMade's 2021 SIM2 driver family, which also included the standard SIM2 and the draw-biased SIM2 Max-D. It is built for mid-to-high launch with mid spin, so it suits a broad spread of swing speeds and handicaps rather than one narrow type of player. The big change from the 2020 SIM Max was Forged Ring Construction: a milled aluminum ring that ties together a carbon sole, the crown, a heavy rear weight and a new milled back cup face. It kept the SIM-era asymmetric Inertia Generator sole, Speed Injected Twist Face and the Thru-Slot Speed Pocket for low strikes. Lofts were 9, 10.5 and 12 degrees, with the 12 offered right-handed only. In 2022 the Stealth family replaced it and moved TaylorMade to a carbon face, so the SIM2 generation is the last of its flagship drivers with a titanium face. For a used buyer that means mature, well-reviewed tech, a deep pool of listings and lots of reshafted examples. The main traps are sibling mix-ups, since the Max-D and plain SIM2 look similar in small photos, and a missing sleeve wrench.
