The 2021 TaylorMade P790 is the third generation of the hollow-body players-distance iron, on sale from September 2021 until the 2023 model arrived in September 2023. The headline change was SpeedFoam Air, a fill TaylorMade says is 69 percent less dense than the earlier SpeedFoam, which saved weight that went lower in the head. It also has a forged 4140 steel face that TaylorMade called the thinnest in the franchise's history, an 8620 carbon steel body, up to 31 grams of tungsten, the thru-slot speed pocket, and a sweet spot realigned toward the high-toe and low-heel strikes amateurs make. Lofts are strong for a players' shape: the 7-iron is 30.5° and the PW is 45°. It suits golfers who want distance from a compact head. Because the 2019 and 2023 P790s look very similar and many eBay titles skip the year, the stock graphite shaft is a useful clue: Mitsubishi MMT graphite arrived with this generation, while the 2017 and 2019 heads came with UST Recoil ES graphite. The 2023 model kept MMT, so check the toe area too.

About 27 P790 2021 sets are listed, but only 9 titles name 2021, so the $650–850 delivered band is a thin read. Compare price per club: the 7- and 8-club sets here run about $87–97 a club, while the two Modus 105 sets ask about $119–124 a club. The 2019 and 2023 P790s look very similar, so confirm the year (the 2023 model has TUNGSTEN lettering at the back of the toe), ask that no head rattles since it's hollow and foam-filled, and plan wedge gaps around the 45° PW. Note the length changes in titles (+1 inch, -1/4 inch) before buying.

Grips, tape and solvent
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
Groove brush and towel
Dirt packed in the grooves costs spin more than a little wear does. A stiff brush and a damp towel after each shot keep a used wedge or iron set playing at its best.
Impact tape
Stickers on the face show where you strike it. A few range sessions tell you whether the used head, loft and lie suit your swing while you can still resell it.
