The Vokey SM9 replaced the SM8 in February 2022, with pre-orders from February 17. Titleist kept the SM8's forward center of gravity but reworked how it rises with loft, using progressively longer hosels and a tapered weight pad in the toe, because the SM8 had struggled to hold that forward CG in high-loft heads on open-face shots. Grooves are cut by loft, narrower and deeper from 46 to 54 degrees and wider and shallower from 56 up, and the impact zone is heat treated, which Titleist said doubles groove durability. The lineup was 23 heads from 46 to 62 degrees in six grinds (F, S, M, K, L, D) with bounce from 4 to 14 degrees, stock with Dynamic Gold S200 and a Tour Velvet 360 White grip. Finishes were Tour Chrome, Brushed Steel and Jet Black, with Raw by custom order. The SM10 took over in early 2024. Used, the SM9 is a sensible middle ground among recent Vokeys: heat-treated grooves, the full grind menu, and enough listings that you can afford to be picky about groove condition. It suits any handicap that is fitted for the right bounce, since the grind choice matters more than the generation.

⚠What to verify before you buy
Match the stamp to a real SM9 head: F grind runs 46.10 to 56.14, S grind 54.10 to 60.10, M grind 56.08 to 62.08, D grind 54.12 to 60.12, K grind 58.14 and 60.14, and the only L is 60.04.
Treat a T grind or any stamp outside that list as a WedgeWorks or custom order that the seller should be able to document, or as a counterfeit warning.
Confirm SM9 from the head itself, since SM8 and SM10 heads are often listed under the wrong number.
Judge grooves in a close, angled face photo: crisp edges and visible texture between the grooves in the strike area mean spin is intact, while a shiny smoothed patch means a worn wedge.
Expect orange surface rust on a Raw custom head, but treat rust or pitting on a chrome or Jet Black head as a storage problem.
Check for the stock Dynamic Gold S200 shaft and Tour Velvet 360 White grip, and ask about the swing weight if either has been changed.
Look at the sole and leading edge for heavy dings or grinding marks, since a reground sole will not play like the bounce on the stamp.
About 193 SM9s are listed, and most complete wedges ask $85–110 delivered. The SM9 (2022) has heat-treated grooves, but a 56, 58 or 60 that has seen a few seasons of bunker play still loses spin, so ask for a close, angled face photo and look for crisp groove edges in the strike area. Match the stamp to a real SM9 combination (for example 56.14F, 58.10S or 60.08M; a T grind or odd stamp is a custom order or a warning) and confirm it's an SM9 head, since SM8 and SM10 heads get mislabeled. Note any lie or length changes, such as the 3° flat 60 here, which only suit some players.

About $74 delivered with Best Offer from a 100% seller, under the band. It's a 56.10 with the stock Vokey wedge flex shaft and a Tour Velvet grip; the title doesn't give the grind letter, so check the stamp and ask for a face photo.
About $79 delivered with Best Offer from a 100% seller, below the band for a 56.14F, a real SM9 combination, with the stock wedge flex steel shaft. The high bounce suits soft sand and steeper swings.
A Jet Black 56.10S, the standard mid-bounce sand wedge, from a 99.7% golf reseller at about $99 with free shipping, mid band. The shaft is listed as AMT Black steel rather than the stock S200, and the seller grades it Good.

What a used club of this type usually needs. Plain Amazon searches: we earn nothing from them.
Groove brush and towel
Dirt packed in the grooves costs spin more than a little wear does. A stiff brush and a damp towel after each shot keep a used wedge or iron set playing at its best.
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
Stickers on the face show where you strike it. A few range sessions tell you whether the used head, loft and lie suit your swing while you can still resell it.
