The G425 Max is the forgiving, adjustable model in Ping's 2021 G425 driver line, which reached shops in January and February 2021. It replaced the G410 Plus and sits between the low-spin G425 LST (a 445cc pear shape) and the draw-biased G425 SFT, which has a fixed heel weight. The Max is a 460cc head with a 26 gram tungsten movable backweight, 10 grams heavier than the G410 Plus weight, that slides between draw, neutral and fade positions. Ping claimed more MOI than the G410 Plus and more shot-shape range in both directions. It suits a wide band of golfers, from mid-handicappers who want help on mishits to faster swingers who just want a stable head, and the draw setting helps players who fight a slice. The G430 Max replaced it in January 2023, and Golf Monthly's head-to-head found only a modest distance gain for the newer club, so the G425 Max remains a sensible used buy. Its main known complaint was a loud sound at impact, which Ping addressed in the G430.

Buying guide · Oct 4, 2026
About 69 G425 Max drivers are listed, and most complete ones sell for $290–340 delivered. Confirm the sole says G425 Max (not LST, SFT or G430 Max), check the movable backweight is fitted and note its position, and read the shaft against the stock Alta CB 55 Slate or Ping Tour 65/75. Ask for a hosel photo to read the loft setting, and budget for a Ping wrench if none is listed. Watch for length changes like '-1/2 in' and Japan-based sellers charging $55 shipping.

Torque wrench for your brand
Adjustable drivers, fairways and hybrids often sell without the wrench. You need one that fits your brand's screw and clicks at the right torque before you change loft or swap a weight.
Headcover
A wood without a headcover picks up crown chips from the irons in the bag. If the original cover is missing, any cover that fits the head size does the job.
Grips, tape and solvent
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
Impact tape
Stickers on the face show where you strike it. A few range sessions tell you whether the used head, loft and lie suit your swing while you can still resell it.
