The G430 Max is the all-round model in Ping's G430 driver family, launched in January 2023 to replace the G425 Max. It is a 460cc head with a 25 gram movable backweight that sets the CG for draw, neutral or fade. Ping made the face thinner and slightly shallower than the G425's and gave it a variable roll radius it calls Spinsistency, with less loft low on the face to protect ball speed and keep spin consistent on thin strikes. New ribs across the sole addressed the loud impact sound that some golfers disliked in the G425. Siblings matter on the used market: the G430 LST is a smaller, lower-spin head with a carbon crown, the SFT is draw-biased, the HL is a lighter high-launch build, and the G430 Max 10K, added in 2024, is a different higher-MOI head. It suits a broad range of golfers who want forgiveness and some shot-shape control. The G440 Max replaced it in early 2025. Golf Monthly measured only a modest gain over the G425 Max, so check prices on both generations.

Buying guide · Oct 4, 2026
About 50 G430 Max drivers are listed, and most complete ones sell for $320–400 delivered. Siblings are the trap: confirm the sole says G430 Max, not Max 10K, LST, SFT or HL (an Alta Quick shaft points to the lighter HL build), and check the 25g backweight is fitted. Read the shaft band against the stock Alta CB Black 55 or Tour 2.0 Chrome/Black 65, and ask for a hosel photo and whether a wrench is included. Avoid the 91.7% seller, and note that Japan-based sellers add $55 shipping.

Torque wrench for your brand
Adjustable drivers, fairways and hybrids often sell without the wrench. You need one that fits your brand's screw and clicks at the right torque before you change loft or swap a weight.
Headcover
A wood without a headcover picks up crown chips from the irons in the bag. If the original cover is missing, any cover that fits the head size does the job.
Grips, tape and solvent
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
Impact tape
Stickers on the face show where you strike it. A few range sessions tell you whether the used head, loft and lie suit your swing while you can still resell it.
