The Ping G425 iron is a game-improvement iron that launched in January 2021, replacing the G410, and was itself replaced by the G430 in January 2023. Ping made the heads more compact than earlier G irons while adding a variable face thickness design borrowed from its woods, which lets the face flex more on off-center hits and freed weight for the hosel and toe. It also has a multi-material cavity badge to damp sound and feel, and a water-repelling Hydropearl finish. Lofts were unchanged from the G410 (the 7-iron is 30°), so a G410 owner fitted to the same specs should not expect much extra distance; the G430 that followed is stronger-lofted, with a 41° PW against the G425's 44.5°. The G425 suits mid-to-high handicaps who want height, forgiveness and repeatable carry distances. It was sold from 4-iron to LW, with standard, Power Spec (stronger) and Retro Spec loft options, and Ping AWT 2.0 steel or Alta CB Slate graphite as stock shafts. For a used buyer, Ping's color code matters: each head is built to a lie angle marked by a colored dot, so a set built for a much taller or shorter golfer may need adjusting.

Buying guide · Oct 4, 2026
About 104 G425 sets are listed, and most complete ones run $625–725 delivered. Set makeups vary a lot (7-PW, 5-PW plus UW, 4-PW, sets with SW and LW), so count the clubs and compare price per club. Ping builds each head to a lie angle shown by a colored dot: Black Dot is standard, and Red, Blue, Orange or White Dot sets were built upright or flat, so check the dot color matches your fitting. Also read the shaft band for Ping AWT 2.0 steel or Alta CB Slate graphite and the flex, and confirm the badge says G425, not G410 or G430.

Grips, tape and solvent
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
Groove brush and towel
Dirt packed in the grooves costs spin more than a little wear does. A stiff brush and a damp towel after each shot keep a used wedge or iron set playing at its best.
Impact tape
Stickers on the face show where you strike it. A few range sessions tell you whether the used head, loft and lie suit your swing while you can still resell it.
