The Phantom X 5 is a wingback mallet from Scotty Cameron's Phantom X family, which replaced the Futura line when it reached US retail on April 12, 2019. The name covers more than one head. The 2019 version paired a stainless steel body with a solid aluminum face anodized black, three neon yellow sight dots on the topline, two stainless heel-toe weights and a single mid-bend shaft that sits it close to face-balanced with little toe flow. Cameron redesigned it for March 2021, flipping to a stainless face fused to an aluminum body, with a silver topline and a straight sightline in place of the dots. The 2022 Phantom X range updated the sole plate and graphics again and added the straight-shafted 5s alongside the 5 and the low-bend, slant-necked 5.5. It suits a golfer with a fairly straight stroke who wants mallet stability in a compact shape. For a used buyer, the version matters for looks and feel, the 5, 5.5 and 5s are not interchangeable fits, and later Cameron mallets dropped the X from the name, so a listing that just says Phantom 5 is a newer putter.

Buying guide · Oct 4, 2026
About 125 Phantom X 5 listings are active, and most run about $270–320 delivered. Work out the version before comparing prices: neon yellow sight dots and a black face mean 2019, a silver topline with a single line means 2021 or later, and the neck should be the single bend, not the 5.5 or straight-shafted 5s (a listing that just says Phantom 5 is a newer Cameron). Check both sole weights, the face and topline paint and the playing length, and ask for photos of the serial number and shaft label below the grip, because counterfeit Scottys are out there. Take care with the zero-feedback kug_19 listing and the mike219jma listing that reuses a quickshipgolf title at about $80 more.

Putter cover
Milled faces and soft inserts mark easily. Pick a blade or mallet cover to match the head shape, and keep it on in the bag and the trunk.
Grips, tape and solvent
Most used clubs arrive on the last owner's grips. If they are shiny, cracked or slick, regripping is the cheapest way to make a used club feel new. Match the grip size to your hands, not to what came off.
